Mobile Computing
Our major new initiative with Eclipse-fm® has to be the release of the Mobile task management system, potentially freeing facilities staff from the need to return to base to pick up task details.
With lots of interest being shown in this, 2008 should provide plenty of innovation as the impact of this begins to emerge in real day to day usage

Welcome to our Eclipse-fm® e-Newsletter.
We are kicking of the new year with a lot of new release announcements, and with even more to follow in the not too distant future.
Eclipse-fm® v3 is now fully released and available, with Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust having been the first to update to it, just before Christmas. We have done more pre-release testing on this version than on any other, and this seems to have paid off, for we have had virtually no reported problems with the Beta release, certainly no "show stoppers" That doesn't mean there aren't any, Eclipse-fm® is far to complex a product for that to be possible, but is is very encouraging - as is Dave Hill's quote opposite.
Get the update from the Eclipse-fm® discussion board as always, and don't hold back - we want you to be using this version! Details below, and on the Eclipse-fm® website.
Alongside the new Eclipse-fm® release we have the all new Eclipse Mobile Task Management - MTM. Mobile devices have now matured enough to support the kind of operations we need, and the necessary infrastructure is coming into place, so the time is now right to put a mobile management solution into place.
We already have several NHS trusts lined up to take this new module which is driven by a combination of the Visual DataFlex Web Application Server and Momote's "MX Platform" that delivers the application to a wide range of wireless devices such as PDAs and pocket PCs .
This will be "V1" of this technology, and once into use we will be looking for your views on what other FM task management aspects can usefully be addressed by this kind of device.

Eclipse-fm Version 3 is released
To be available by year end, Eclipse-fm® v3 contains a many improvements and new features. Our major new feature is the Mobile Task Management Module, Eclipse MDM, explored in further detail below. Some of the other features of v3 include:-
General usability
· New view that shows who is logged in.
· New Menu, toolbar and tabs making for improved usability
· New system wide colour settings to improved usability
· More date validation - eliminates the chance of getting "impossible" dates into the system

Task management
· New filters added to the enquiry view. These provide further options to allow the data to focus on the area that you are interested in. E.g. You can now search by "Reported By" - the person who reported this task
· Asset warranty information now available in Helpdesk - provides on the spot warranty status when creating maintenance task
· Template scheduling improved and easier to use
Asset Management
· New tabs include Capital Charges fields. This means that you can now collect and store all of the needed capital charges information against the capital charge assets. This data can be exported, e.g. to the trust accounting system for Capital Assets Accounting purposes.
· Now shows Assets by Organisation, and by location. Eclipse-fm® holds a complete asset inventory listed in the ways you will most often need to review your assets.
· The Asset loan system has been extended. Assets do "move around", and this gives you a chance to keep track of the inevitable loan out situation.
Stock control
· You can now issue stock receipts without having to also use the full purchase orders module
Web Eclipse-fm®
· Ticket list and task creation screens have been overhauled making the system faster and easier to raise new tickes and find existing tickets. A new Status list feature has been added This means that you can see at a glance details of the current status/progress of the tickets
Dynamic AI
· A set of higher management reports and an Eclipse-fm® "Dashboard" is available pre-built for those who take up the Dynamic Ai Business Intelligence system.

Eclipse-fm® MTM (Mobile Task Management)
Asckey Data Services' new Mobile Task Management module will be available in December. Based on industry standard PDAs and "smart phones" Eclipse-fm® MTM can be easily implemented in conjunction with the Eclipse-fm® Facilities Management system.
Handheld technology and remote working bring the potential for dramatic improvements in the way in which Estates and Facilities departments operate.
